EXECUTIVE
COMMITTEE MEETING |
Words From the President |
We had a very good Legislative Reception this year. It was well organized, well attended, and everyone seemed to have a good time. The Legislators were each allowed to make a short comment this year and one of the things I noticed was the unique camaraderie these guys displayed. Despite the fact that they must disagree daily on a multitude of issues, this night they presented a united “we are there to serve you” front. Some were even quite entertaining poking fun at each other. The Central District is very similar to me. It is a geographically designated group with a wide variety of personalities with varied opinions and outlooks. But we all have common ground as well. It may be on this common ground that we can be of most benefit to Dentistry as a Profession. We should all be concerned about issues such as International Accreditation of Dental Schools, “Pay for Performance” being promoted by the insurance companies, the new Workforce model and the multitude of other issues that may one day change the way we practice. And we can all work together to make sure the changes that do occur are in the best interest of Dentistry and our patients. But I also think that one of the greatest benefits of membership in the society for each of us is on a much more individual basis. It gives us the opportunity to come together and interact with each other. I have been to many meetings and gathered more beneficial information from the dentists at my table than from the speaker. It gives us the opportunity to know people we might not have otherwise gotten to know. Some of these people turn out to be some of the most entertaining, interesting and thought provoking people you will ever know. Bottom line—I would just like to say how much I appreciate being a member of this organization and encourage anyone who is not taking full advantage of all it has to offer to do so. Have a great 2007. Sincerely, Deena Holliman Smith, DMD |

With
Deepest Sympathy
We extend our deepest sympathy to the families of: Dr. Peter O. Holliday, Jr. and Dr. D. T. Walton, Jr. We certainly have lost two dedicated professionals, who truly made a positive impact on not only dentistry, but the community as well. They will be sorely missed by all of us. |
