Presidents Report
As I embark on my year as CDDS president, I would like to tell each of you how much I appreciate the opportunity to serve in this capacity. My last year, as president elect, was most enlightening. I had the opportunity to attend the Board of Trustee meetings at the GDA office and learned more about the GDA than I had in the last 17 years all together. I now have some very small idea of what Dr. Ivey, Dr. Hall and all others who have served so faithfully for so long have really done for us. Dentistry is a great profession. Let's all work together to keep it that way. The new Expanded Dental Workforce Team introduced by the ADA has many of us concerned. Will dentistry soon be a service offered by WalMart and CVS in their Mini Clinics staffed by auxiliary personnel? Will this aid the Insurance industry in infiltrating us as they did medicine? There will always be change in dentistry as there is in everything else. And I am sure there are some who are excited about the very changes that frighten others of us. What we each must do is decide how we want to practice dentistry and then voice those opinions and work to keep those options open for ourselves and those to follow us. I believe that the dental team we now have dentist, hygienist, assistant can aid in addressing the issues of access to care just as well as an expanded team could. I truly believe that most dentists are hardworking, caring individuals and that the public now has the best method of delivery of dental care. If you do also, talk to your other GDA members, talk to your legislators, talk to your patients. Let everyone know how good dentistry is now. Support GADPAC. If you want to be more active in the CDDS talk to any district leader. We are looking for you and would very much appreciate your participation. Sincerely, Deena Holliman Smith |

Jennifer Roberson notified the Georgia Board Of Dentistry that one of her patients saw teeth bleaching advertised at a local Salon. The BOD investigated this and has filed a cease and desist order to the owner of the Salon. The BOD fined the Salon $1000. Where are your crowns being fabricated? Thomas Griffin was recently visited by a lab salesman who encouraged him to try a lab in the Far East. The salesman insisted that the turnaround time is so short, that he implied some local labs might sub-out their work. ..
