WORDS FROM THE PRESIDENT
Donald Benton, D.M.D.
Dear Colleague,
I am composing this message to you as the 2002 Georgia General Assembly begins their Forty days of "Work".
Ben Franklin said it so well many years ago and it is even more true today:"No man's life, liberty or fortune is safe while our legislature is in session."
Monday January 14 was proclaimed Dental Health Day in Georgia as members of the GDA and spouses handed out dental care kits to Legislators and staffers. The clock has begun and we must be ready for anything that comes up.
My sincere thanks to Bill Argo for his fine work putting our Legislative Reception together in late November. We had a very good function that helped to strengthen our contacts and forge some new relationships as well. Keep in mind LAW Day for the CDDS is on Feb.19.Please make every effort to attend this important Day at the Capital to promote your profession and preserve the strides we have already made. This is an opportunity to be a part of organized Dentistry on its highest level. We need as many participants as possible to have maximum effectiveness in getting our message out to the legislators.
Saturday January 12 I attended the nominating committee meeting at the GDA Office with Kendrick Mathews as your district representatives. GDA
President John Freihaut conducted the meeting . I am pleased to report that Ed Green was elected Vice-President of the GDA. Ty Ivey was elected Trustee for the Central District for a four year term. Ty Ivey was also elected to serve a third term as ADA Delegate. It is noteworthy that all of these were unanimous votes by the committee.
Sunday January 13 was the House of Delegates meeting. The District was well represented by your delegation and the early Caucus breakfast was well attended. My thanks to Bob Vedder for his untiring work as head of the Central District Delegation and to all the members and alternates. A special treat was a presentation to Ty Ivey by Howard Jones for Ty's outstanding work as Howard's Campaign Manager in his bid for the chairs at the ADA.
Remember that the Spouse Social is January 26. Please respond as soon as possible . Don't miss this excellent opportunity for some fun and
fellowship at the Museum!
Sincerely,
Don
