Dr. Peter Osborne Holliday, Jr., 85, died January 20, 2007.  He was born on July 9, 1921 in Macon to Judge Peter Osborne and Martha Elizabeth Riley Holliday. 


He attended North Georgia College and Mercer University.  He received his DDS degree from Emory University in 1945. 

Dr. Holliday served as a Lt. in the Navy attached to the Fleet Marines in North China until 1947.

He did additional postgraduate dental training at the University of Michigan.  He practiced dentistry in Macon from 1947 until the present day.  His son Lindsay joined him in practice in 1983; they founded Holliday Dental Associates.

He served the American Dental Association through numerous local and state offices, and served as president of the Georgia Dental Association in 1978.

Other dental memberships included Fellowship in the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, and the Georgia Academy of Dental Practice.

He was a dedicated bicyclist and a proponent of aerobic exercise and proper nutrition.  He was a member of the Southern Bicycle League, League of American Wheelman and Southern Academy of Clinical Nutrition.

Dr. Holliday is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Lucille Dozier Holliday.

Children - Dr. Peter Osborne Holliday, III (Jeanne Jones), Lucy Riley Holliday, Dr. Lindsay Dozier Holliday (Marie MacKay), all of Macon; and Mary Dozier Holliday Byrd (Dr. Benjamin Byrd, III) of Nashville, Tennessee.

Grandchildren - Dorothy Zimmerman Holliday, Peter Osborne Holliday, IV;  Lucy Faith Collins, Jane McRae Collins Boutwell (Andrew),  Mary Lindsay Collins, Elizabeth Cordelia Collins;  Margaret Fairchild Dozier Holliday;  Caroline Lindsay Byrd, Benjamin Franklin Byrd, IV.

Sister-in-Law - Cordelia Dessau Holliday.  Niece - Martha Frances Holliday Sanford (Jerry) and Nephew - Riley Dessau Holliday (Sue).  Dr. Holliday was predeceased by his only brother, Jackson Riley Holliday.

The family will greet friends from 6--8 pm Tuesday, January 23rd. at Hart's Mortuary.

Memorial Service - High Street Unitarian Church, 1085 High Street at 11am Wednesday, January 24th. 

Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. 

The family may be reached at the residence of Dr. Peter Holliday, III, at 607 College Street. 

The family suggests memorial donations to the charity of your choice.



I am not going to morn or despair over the loss of Pete Holliday... Instead, I am going to dwell on the joyous moments, hours and days that I have spent with Pete Holliday...
